Parsons Mounted Cavalry
Senior Cadet

$88.00
(plus shipping)
The horse cavalry program at Texas A&M was originally founded in 1919 as part of the program to commission reserve officers into the Cavalry branch of the Army. The unit thrived until 1943 when the horse branches were disbanded and considered obsolete. In 1972 three motivated cadets approached the Commandant of Cadets, Colonel Tom Parsons ’49, and asked for his help in reviving the fading memory of the horse cavalry. Parsons Mounted Cavalry was named in his honor. One of the objectives of the PMC is to preserve the traditions of Texas A&M University represented by the cavalry and field units of the pre-World War II era.

Cannon Crew

$320.00

The Cannon Crew is an integral part of the PMC. The cannon is actually a Model 1902 3-inch field gun. The 3-inch gun was the Army’s preferred field artillery piece until World War I when the 75mm was adopted for munitions compatibility with the Allies. It was the late 1970’s when the cannon was first found at a bonfire cut site. In September of 1982, “The Spirit of ‘02” was first fired on the Corps of Cadets Quadrangle. In 1984, the cannon became part of Aggie football tradition by firing a shot every time the team scored. This six piece set includes the cannon, two cadets, two senior cadets and the sign that reads, “Warning Cannon Fires When Aggies Score.”
